Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel earns Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week honors

How good is Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel? According to a press release Monday, he is so good that the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award named him the National Player of the Week for his Week 3 performance in the Aggies 49-42 loss to No. 1 Alabama.

Manziel was 28 of 39 for 464 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions, and he also rushed for 98 yards.

The award also recognized the following players as honorable mentions for Week 3: Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans, Ohio State quarterback Kenny Guiton, ULM quarterback Kolton Browning and Northwestern running back Treyvon Green.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division 1 football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals, according to its website.
