Ultra-Trail World Tour set for 2014 launch

A big announcement was made earlier this month that will certainly excite all you fans of marathon-length competitive hiking: the Ultra-Trail World Tour will begin in 2014!

Okay, I’ll give you all a moment to catch your collective breaths.

Good?

The Ultra-Trail World Tour will be comprised of eight to ten races, five to six of which will be “majors.” Eight races have been confirmed so far: the Vibram Hong Kong 100 in Hong Kong; the North Face Transgrancanaria in Spain; the Vibram Tarawera 100km Ultramarathon in New Zealand; the Marathon des Sables in Morocco; the Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji in Japan; the North Face® Lavaredo Ultra Trail in Italy; the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in California; and the North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc in France, Italy, and Switzerland (ESPN).

The Ultra-Trail World Tour will have a point system and will award championships to the top male and female finishers. Anyone can participate, so you better start preparing now. I can get in high-elevation marathon shape in a few months, right?
