Sitting at No. 6 in the latest college football AP Poll, the LSU Tigers have now emerged as a legitimate BCS championship contender, while the Auburn Tigers are less than three years removed from taking the title home in 2011, but after a disastrous 2012 campaign, are just hoping to get back to respectability in the SEC.
A win over their SEC West rivals would certainly do that, but playing in Baton Rouge on Saturday night has proven fatal for most teams unfortunate enough to face the Tigers under those circumstances.
LSU QB Zach Mettenberger is now up to nine touchdowns on the season with zero interceptions, and is thriving in his second season as the Tiger’s starting QB, and he finally looks to be living up to his potential. Mettenberger leads the SEC in passing efficiency, but he’ll need to continue his hot-start this week on a national stage if he wants to continue to bolster his slim (at the moment) chance of winning the Heisman.
He’ll face a nice test in the form of 3-0 Auburn at home this week before a critical road contest @ the No. 9 Georgia Bulldogs.
