The New York Jets don’t seem fond of rookie quarterback Geno Smith. The Jets drafted him in the second round, you’d think they’d have some kind of plan for him to be their quarterback of their future. Yet they decided to stick with Mark Sanchez it looked like before he was injured. Though Rex Ryan says a decision was never made.

But after he won in Week One fans were optimistic. Now after an ugly performance against the New England Patriots there were rumors that some Jets were supporting Matt Simms to play.

“Matt, I think is a really good quarterback,” Smith said. “But I think I’m the guy for the job.”

The report originated from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Geno Smith it is just part of Schefter’s job.

“Adam’s doing his job, and I’m pretty sure whatever he put out there, he probably got some information,” Smith said, via ESPNNewYork.com. “But I can tell you one thing. Within this organization, from my coaches right down to (general manager) John (Idzik), Rex (Ryan), all those guys — I don’t think they would have brought me in here if they didn’t see the potential in me.”
