Three-time UFC title contender Chael Sonnen spends his time outside of the octagon as an analyst for the UFC on FOX Sports 1. As Sonnen often does, he speaks without a filter and that has landed him in the center of some controversy after making insensitive remarks about recording artist Rihanna.

After receiving some backlash from Sonnen’s domestic violence joke, FOX Sports has come forward with an apology.

Here is their statement, via Deadspin.com:

FOX Sports regrets the comments Chael Sonnen made during last night’s edition of FOX Sports Live. They were an inappropriate attempt at humor that Sonnen acknowledges shouldn’t have been made and he apologizes to anyone who may have been offended by his remarks.

Sonnen has not apologized for the remarks and judging by his track record he likely never will.

For FOX Sports, they understand that is a risk they take by using a guy with no filter as an on-air personality, but they will try to keep these controversies at a minimum moving forward.
