Today is the day that the new iOS 7 is set to be released. This update has been highly anticipated since it’s announcement and has Apple’s faithful following eagerly waiting. But before you update your iPhone or iPad there are three things you should do.

1. Check out your devices compatibility

Why go through the process of preparing your iPhone or iPad if it isn’t compatible? Unfortunately not all Apple devices will be compatible with the new iOS 7, the good news is that most recent Apple devices are compatible, like the 4 most recent iPads and the 3 most recent iPhones. You’d really have to be holding on to an old iPhone or iPad to not be compatible for iOS 7.

Compatible devices are as follows:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 4s
  • iPhone 5
  • iPad 2
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 4
  • iPad Mini
  • iPod Touch (5th Generation)

2. Back up your device

You should be doing this regularly incase something happens to your phone and you don’t want to lose everything like your pictures or videos. You can go to iTunes once your device is plugged in to back it up. Also if you have a Mac with OS X, Image Capture will pop up automatically and allow you to back up all your images easily.

3. Clean up your iPhone

I have a relatively small 16 GB iPhone 4. So I’m constantly having to manage what I keep on my iPhone, that means moving pictures and video off my phone. One thing I do frequently is clear off apps I don’t use, this doesn’t clear as much memory as pictures but it I feel it helps with the speed.
