26-year-old Billy Horschel isn’t one of the marquee names participating in the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club this week. Horschel, who back in April won his first tournament on the PGA Tour, may indeed become a household name if he’s able to replicate his excellent opening round of 66, though.
However, the humble Horschel said after his round that he’s just happy to be involved:
It’s fun to finally be here. I’ve seen it on TV many, many times. I’m a golf fan. I love watching golf. It’s obviously a small field. It’s an elite field. You’ve got to have a really good year to be here, and I feel like a kid in a candy store to be here, honestly, because it’s been a fun week so far (Reuters).
And regarding the $10 million prize he’s vying for in that candy store? Well, Horschel said he’s not focused on the money and that he doesn’t know “what the scenarios are” that would potentially lead to the huge payday. “If it happens to get in my pocket on Sunday night,” Horschel said, “it’ll be a great thing.”
