As the Tour Championship by Coca Cola gets underway this morning at East Lake Golf Course one would have to think Tiger Woods is still the man to beat. He is, after all, the only player on the PGA Tour to own two FedEx Cup trophies, and in my opinion, the man to beat here. It has been a tale of two Tigers this year, one that shows up and looks unbeatable as he did five times, and the other Tiger that looks like a rank amateur where nothing seems to be going right.

There will be 30 of the top professional golfers teeing it up on Thursday morning for one of golf’s biggest paychecks. I’m sure some of the players who will be at East Lake this week would trade the big check that comes with a FedEx Cup for one of the four major championships, so even though there is a lot of money on the line, and money gets spent, but Green Jackets live forever.

The list of probabilities as we get underway are as numerous as the possibilities as the breaks on the greens at this historic venue just outside of  Atlanta. If you are a mathematician, you should visit pgatour.com, and check out the various scenarios that would yield each and every contestant a FedEx Cup this week.

I don’t think Tiger Woods is coming to the Tour Championship with his A-Game. Unfortunately, I think he is going to need it if he is going to take on this field, and come out victorious on Sunday afternoon.

Henrik Stenson comes to the week with one win on the season at The Deutsche Bank a few weeks back, but is also coming with some physical problems. He has been experiencing tendonitis in his wrist, and it is limiting his preparation schedule. Like Tiger, the hottest player on tour this year is limping into Atlanta, and is not in possession of his A-Game.

The logical choice to win it all this week is Matt Kuchar. This golf course is a home game for Kuchar who went to school at Georgia Tech. He has a lot of local course knowledge, and beginning in the fifth position, has the capability of winning it all. Matt Kuchar is steady, and if he can catch a couple of breaks, could very well hoist a trophy on Sunday, and hire a body guard to escort him to the bank.

I really like Steve Stricker this week. I think it’s time for the aging veteran to win something big, and what a better place to flex you muscle, than the last Tournament of the year with all the marbles in the game.

Steve has played what he calls, a reduced schedule this year, and comes to East Lake with a rested body, and a clear mind. He felt so little pressure that he was thinking about skipping this tournament all together in lieu of going moose hunting. Moose Hunting? You have to be kidding me, the FedEx Cup trophy and $10 Million dollars and you want to go Moose Hunting?

Well he’s here, and I think he is the man to beat. He needs a little help, but I think it’s his year. He narrowly missed winning the WGC-Cadillac this year, finishing second to Tiger Woods after giving him some putting tips at the Honda, and since the PGA Championship, has been on a tear. It’s time for Steve Stricker to add a FedEx Trophy to his collection this week!
