Marvel Eyeing an ‘Agent Carter’ Series

With Marvel getting ready to release its first-ever scripted television venture with the start of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. next week on ABC, multiple sources are reporting the possibility of a new series in the works at Marvel Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is in the early stages of prepping a potential television series based on Agent Carter.

Agent Carter is a one-shot that is set to be released as a bonus feature on the upcoming release of Iron Man 3 on Blu-Ray on September 24th, the same day as the premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D on ABC.

Agent Carter is set one year after the events that occurred in Captain America: The First Avenger, and will follow the adventures of Agent Carter, who was Steve Rogers’ love interest in the film. Agent Carter is portrayed by Hayley Atwell.

This would not be the first time that a television series was born out of one of these Marvel One-Shots.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was created from Item 47, and original short that was featured on the DVD release of The Avengers.

There are currently no deals in place for the production of the series, however, being that Marvel Entertainment shares a home at Disney with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s network ABC, it would not be a stretch to assume that the network would be the ideal landing place for the proposed Agent Carter series.

Right now, with there being no official deal in place, there have been no casting choices made. It is unknown if Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Agent Carter.

I do have to say that this may be the opportune time to start discussing this series. Marvel is currently gearing up to release Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014.

In The Winter Soldier, Emily VanCamp is set to play Agent 13, the niece of Peggy Carter.

The series, should it come into fruition, could work very well paired up with the release of The Winter Soldier. It would help guide the character into the next phase, while ensuring that fans don’t forget where these events all started.

I would assume that should Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hit the ground running and garner the large following that I am expecting it will, it is a good possibility that we may see discussion of the Agent Carter series begin to heat up.

After seeing the clip, what do you think of the possibility of a series to follow? Do you think Agent Carter could hold her own in a long term series?
