Rumors began to swirl on Thursday afternoon that there was some validity to the belief that Alabama Crimson Tide head coach could take over for Texas Longhorns head coach Mack Brown next year.
However, Longhorns fans may want to pump the breaks on their celebration.
When Saban was asked about the rumors, he flat out denied that he knew of any conversations taking place.
“Nothing went on that I know of. I don’t know about any of this stuff,” Saban said, via al.com. “I haven’t talked to anybody about that particular situation. They have a coach there.”
Not only is Saban apparently unaware of any discussion occurring, he wants it to be known that he is very happy at Alabama.
“Every year it’s something. Last year it was the Cleveland Browns,” Saban said. “The year before that it was somebody else, the NFL. Terry and I are very happy here in Tuscaloosa. We’re really love the University of Alabama. We really feel like a part of the community here and we have a lot of good friends here.”
Oh, and there is the fact that he is just too old to start over somewhere else.
“And, quite frankly,” Saban said, “I’m just too damn old to start over somewhere else.”
When you have a gig as sweet and comfortable as Saban’s situation at Alabama, there is really no reason to start over — especially when the new job would lead you to a team that is as big of a mess as the Longhorns are.
