Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is a big Manchester United fan. This weekend is the Manchester Derby, think Subway Series in New York. Manchester City and Manchester United, the last two English Premier League Champions will square off.
In an ad for Puma, Usain Bolt is reading a newspaper when he sees a cover shot of Manchester City player Sergio Agüero with the title that his Agüero’s speed is the biggest threat to Manchester United.
He says “we’ll see about that” and surprises Agüero why he is training. The big question is why the commercial takes the turn it does.
Instead of Bolt and Agüero competing, as you’d think would happen considering their on opposite sides of the Derby, Bolt offers to help Agüero get faster. So that he can help beat Bolt’s favorite team? Doesn’t make sense at all.
Bolt is even wearing United colors while helping Agüero.
I think the play is that he is trying to tire Agüero out days before the match, but I still think it’s stupid.
“Sergio’s caused United a lot of problems over the years, so I thought I’d drop in on him to see if I could tire him before the game on Sunday. But turns out he’s pretty fit,” Bolt said, via the Telegraph.
“I have to admit I was impressed with his qualities, United definitely need to keep him quiet but I’m sure they can do that and get three points.”
Sergio Agüero sort of returned the favor with a back-handed compliment.
“When he started to play properly, he showed some skills though. He is not good enough to play for City, but I think he would have a good chance of getting into the United team.”
