The Atlanta Braves were hopeful that they’d be able to activate outfielder Jason Heyward off of the disabled list sometime before the end of the season as they wanted to get him some playing time before the postseason.

Apparently, their wish has been granted as today, the Braves activated Heyward.

The talented outfielder had been out since mid August after he was hit by a pitch which broke his jaw.

There were suggestions that Heyward could return next week, which would have given him a few games to get back into the flow but the extra week of playing time will certainly be a benefit for both he and the Braves.

Heyward is penciled into the lineup tonight where he’ll play five innings or get three at-bat’s, whichever comes first.

Per David O’Brien:

#Braves Heyward will have 5 innings or 3 ABs today

Heyward didn’t see live pitching until just two days ago, so he’ll definitely have an adjust period, but glad to see him back on the field.
