Alex Rodriguez was unaware New York Yankees teammate Andy Pettitte plans to retire

Yesterday, New York Yankees starting pitcher Andy Pettitte confirmed this season would be his last (again) as he’s set to retire whenever the Yankees’ season concludes.

That’s news to teammate Alex Rodriguez though, who when asked about Pettitte’s plans to retire, seemed perplexed.

Per Peter Botte:

Asked for a comment about Pettitte, A-Rod said “tell me what happened.” Reporters pointed to retirement presser on overhead TV. Didn’t know.

Now, just because they’re teammates, I guess Rodriguez shouldn’t be expected to know that Andy is planning to hang up the cleats.

I mean, they practically interrupted my favorite afternoon soap opera television show on a non-sports network just to announce that Pettitte was indeed planning to retire, but maybe the news didn’t get into Rodriguez’s bubble yet.

After all, that thing is hard to penetrate, well, unless you’re a needle.

What are the odds on Rodriguez knowing that teammate and closer Mariano Rivera plans to retire this season? He’s probably pissed as hell seeing Rivera get all these random gifts for no reason.
