Boston Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes kicks beer cans into seats, hurts fan (video)

The Boston Red Sox were reportedly not going to celebrate on the field when they won the American League East division.

Plans change, I guess, as members of the Sox celebrated on the field, wanting to include their fans in the festivities. That’s all good.

What wasn’t all good though was a momentary lapse in judgement from Boston Red Sox outfielder Jonny Gomes who decided to kick beer cans into the celebrating crowd. One struck a man in his head, right above his eye, leaving quite the nasty gash.

Per Boston Sports Then and Now:

Jonny Gomes has been famed for punting his batting helmet when approaching home plate following some of his walk-off heroics this season. Tonight during the team’s AL East clinching victory, Gomes punted several beer cans into the stands including one that left this fan bloodied. Wonder how the Red Sox and Gomes will handle this PR nightmare?
