This isn’t exactly a new tradition, but despite that, I’ve got to hand it to the University of Wisconsin – this was pretty cool.
Prior to Saturday’s game against Purdue, the school honored a young middle school student by the name of Bella during pre-game ceremonies. Bella walked on to the field alongside the Wisconsin mascot, posed for pictures and was put on the video board in front of 80,000 plus who applauded her achievements. A very cool moment for anybody, let alone a teenager.
Little did she know, waiting behind her in the Badger end zone was her Mother, Army captain Jane Renee ‘JR’ Lund, who had returned home early from Afghanistan.
You can hear the PA say that Lund wasn’t expected to return home until sometime in October, but that’s when things got really quiet, the mascot walked away and young Bella could sense the awkwardness of 80,000 at Camp Randall ready to explode.
Explode they did as Bella turned around, saw her Mother and the two embraced in an amazingly feel good moment.
