After what is a rare 2-1 start to the 2013 football season, the Kansas Jayhawks released some bad news on Monday.
Highly-recruited defensive tackle recruit Marquel Combs has left the program, and it appears that he will look to transfer in the very near future from KU. This is a significant talent loss for Charlie Weis and company, as Combs was a huge recruiting “get” after a successful junior college stint.
Combs, a 305-pound monster in the middle of any defensive line, reportedly struggled through training camp, and as a result, didn’t crack the starting lineup for the first three games of the year. With KU at 2-1 to start the year (admittedly, with wins over South Dakota and Louisiana Tech), it didn’t appear that a shake up was in the works, and with that, he has bolted for greener pastures.
It has been reported (by the Associated Press among others) that Combs will be restricted to non-Big 12 teams for transferring purproses. No matter where he lands, however, the Jayhawks faithful will be hoping that he doesn’t come back to haunt them, as the 300+ pound defensive lineman with skills isn’t exactly a regular occurrence in Lawrence.
