Jacob Landis, a 24-year-old man from Maryland, has been biking across the country all summer to raise money for hearing loss. His goal was to bike to every Major League Baseball stadium — he’s made it to 29 — but that plan suffered a setback over the weekend when he was hit by the mirror of a truck on Hwy. 27.
Landis suffered a concussion — he doesn’t remember the collision — as well as a broken jaw and two fractures in his cheekbones. Said Landis:
Yesterday, with less than four miles to go to the hotel, I was struck by a tractor trailer’s mirror. I don’t remember anything that happened, until I woke up at the hospital (ABC News).
Landis, who has biked over 10,000 miles this summer, wants to raise $1 million to support children whose families can’t afford cochlear implants. (Landis himself was deaf by age 10, but he was thankfully able to afford the procedure.) Despite his injuries, he plans to finish his ride by attending the Miami Marlins vs. Philadelphia Phillies game tomorrow.
