Only in the SEC.
LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, who is having a remarkable season, started college as a Georgia Bulldog before he was kicked off the team by head coach Mark Richt. That itself would be an interesting subplot to the upcoming game between the Tigers and the Bulldogs, but there’s another fun wrinkle: Zach’s mom is an administrative assistant for Richt. Yeah. Awkward.
In the spirit of the rivalry, Richt has given Tammy Mettenberger the week off, telling the Ledger-Enquirer the following:
She loves her son, obviously, and it would be awkward for her to be hanging around all week. I told her, ‘Enjoy it, go have fun, do some things you wouldn’t normally do this time of year and enjoy it.’
The battle between the Bulldogs and the Tigers is the marquee game of the upcoming weekend. Both teams are in the top-ten nationally, but Georgia, already having one loss, needs to run the table for the rest of the season to keep their title hopes alive. The game will be kicking off at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) and can be seen on CBS.
We hope Zach’s mother enjoys her week away from the office and uses it for something productive, like passing secrets to LSU coach Les Miles (because if there was a college football coach who used the mom of one of his players as a spy, it would totally be Les Miles).
