The Detroit Tigers lost the 2012 MVP on Saturday. Third baseman Miguel Cabrera left Saturday’s 7-6 victory over the Chicago White Sox with groin soreness. He then missed Sunday’s 6-3 loss because of the injury.
According to Chris Lott of MLive.com, Cabrera is back in the Tigers lineup Monday. The Tigers are sending Justin Verlander (13-12, 3.66 ERA) to the hill to take on the Minnesota Twins at 8:10 pm EST at Target Field. The Twins will counter with Mike Pelfrey (5-13, 5.34 ERA).
The Tigers are close to wrapping up the NL Central title (they have a five game lead with six games to play) so expect Cabrera to get the rest he need soon. The Tigers are in the running for home field throughout the playoffs, but trail the Boston Red Sox by 3.5 games.
Cabrera is having another fantastic season. In fact, he was 3-of-4 with a walk and an RBI in the game he was injured in. On the season, he’s batting .349, has an on base percentage of .445 and is slugging .647. He has 44 home runs and 136 RBI.
