New York Yankees shut down CC Sabathia for remainder of season

After losing to the San Francisco Giants yesterday afternoon, the New York Yankees postseason hopes are on life support.

Now four games back of the final Wild Card spot, the Yankees are going to need a minor miracle to be playing in October and they won’t have the assistance of ace CC Sabathia to do it as the team shut him down for the rest of the season this morning.

Per Andy McCullough:

CC Sabathia has been shut down for 2013 due to a hamstring strain suffered Friday. A fitting end to an awful season.

The Yankees begin a three game set with the Wild Card leading Tampa Bay Rays this evening, a series that the Yankees would need to sweep to have any chance at making a postseason run. That doesn’t even mention the three other teams they’d need to leapfrog in the standings assuming they were able to draw close.

Needless to say, it needs to be a perfect week for the Yankees and one that isn’t starting off well with the Sabathia news.
