There was a report from CBSSports.com that said New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram was going to ask for a trade. This came on the heels of the shocking trade between the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts for running back Trent Richardson. Saints head coach Sean Payton has denied the rumors and called the reports “completely false.”

From NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune:

"Sean Payton vehemently denied a report running back Mark Ingram is seeking a trade. Payton told NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on Sunday night that CBS Sports’ report Ingram could be seeking a trade was “completely false” and had “zero credibility.”"

Mark Ingram sat out Sunday’s win against the Arizona Cardinals with a toe injury. In his absence the Saints running backs rushed 18 times for 83 yards. Quarterback Drew Brees ran 6 times for 21 yards and a touchdown as well.

Ingram has carried the ball 17 times this season for 31 yards, less than 2 yards a carry. By comparison Darren Sproles has carried the ball 18 times for 65 yards.

It could be Ingram’s running style doesn’t mesh with the way Saints use running backs. Nevertheless Ingram seems to have fallen victim to the Heisman Trophy curse.
