Drake’s new album, Nothing Was the Same, slated for a September 24th release date. Unfortunately it hit the internet and leaked over a week ahead of the release date but that hasn’t slowed the hype for his new album.
[RELATED]: It is now available on iTunes and in stores everywhere.
The album isn’t a huge departure from what you’ve heard on previous albums. It has it’s traditional relaxed and chilled vibe. The highlights of the album are songs you’ve already heard like “Started from the Bottom,” “All Me,” and “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
Leak Jones posted Drake’s newest video for his single off Nothing Was The Same, “Hold On, We’re Going Home.”
The video is a movie of sorts, a departure from typical rap videos. It shows Drake out celebrating with friends, in Miami 1985, including ASAP Rocky, who makes a toast. Meanwhile, back at home a woman who is at her vanity gets a bag put over her head and kidnapped. Then someone brings a rotary phone to Drake’s table and he finds out she has been kidnapped.
“He’s taken what is mine, and now I’ve taken what is his,” the kidnapper says.
That is when the song and the rest of the movie gets underway. It is hard to believe that this love song, which Drake said he wanted people dancing to at weddings has such a gangster movie storyline for a video. If you heard the song, the last thing you’d think of in your head for the video was ski masks and machine guns.
It still is one of the best videos you’ll see in a long time.
