North Carolina Tar Heels guard P.J. Hairston had quite the offseason. First, he was charged with marijuana possession and driving without a license, but those charges were dropped. However, Hairston is being investigated by the NCAA for his relationship with Haydn “Fats” Thomas. Thomas is a convicted felon and rented the car Hairston was driving at the time of his arrest. In July, Hairston was cited with reckless driving when he was caught speeding and has since been suspended indefinitely.
Hairston is now back practicing with the team and the Tar Heels don’t expect it to be a distraction.
“We’ve moved on,” guard Marcus Paige told Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com. “He’s working out with us, and we still accept him. It was a big deal in the media, but we’re pretty confident everyone has moved past it. We can’t wait to get him back — whenever it is.”
Hairston is the Tar Heels’ leading returning scorer. He averaged 14.6 points per game last season.
