Sam Gagner tweeted out a picture of his broken jaw

On Saturday, Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Gagner was hit in the face by the hockey stick of Vancouver Canucks forward Zack Kassian. That hit left Gagner with a broken jaw, and he followed in Rashad Johnson’s footsteps and tweeted out a picture of the injury.

Kassian was suspended for the rest of the preseason and the first 5 games of the regular season for the hit.

This is what the NHL said:

“As he nears the boards, Kassian comes to a spinning stop, recklessly swinging his stick and striking Gagner in the face and breaking his jaw. It is also important to note that Kassian begins the act of swinging his stick before he crashes into the board.

“And while we accept Kassian’s assertion that he did not intend to strike Gagner in the face, he is however responsible for the consequences of swinging his stick in this instance.”
