Suspended Detroit Tiger Jhonny Peralta has been gaining solid praise from teammates and coaches alike for his work at the plate and in the outfield in the Tigers’ instructional league.
“He’s a natural,” said Austin Scotts, a Tigers prospect who played center field while Peralta played left in an instructional league game Monday, “Can’t really tell he’s new to the position.”
Bruce Fields, the Tigers minor league hitting coordinator who is down in Lakeland, said Peralta will be ready.
“His timing is back,” Fields said of Peralta’s work at the plate.
Not that Fields was concerned about the layoff for Peralta.
“I wasn’t worried,” he said.
Peralta’s suspension ends just in time for the Tigers season finale against the AAAA Florida Marlins. The Tigers, who clinched a playoff spot last night, are thought to be open to bringing Peralta back to the team as either an infielder, outfielder, or a super-sub.
