Defensive end Robert Nkemdiche was the #1 overall recruit in the class of 2013. Many were surprised when the one time Clemson Tigers commitment out of Loganville, Georgia showed great interest in and eventually signed with Ole Miss Rebels.
In reality, it was no surprise. Nkemdiche’s older brother, Denzel, is a linebacker for Ole Miss. The redshirt sophomore had five tackles in the Rebels’ season opening 39-35 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores, but injured his knee in the game and hasn’t played since.
It looks like the Rebels will have Nkemdiche back for the their show down with the top ranked Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday night.
“The big question was: Would there be a lot of swelling in the knee? We were pleased that he did not have any and feel very good about it,” Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said via Chris Low of ESPN.com. “He’ll go through practice [Wednesday], and we’ll check it again Thursday morning. If it looks Thursday morning like it did today, then he’ll be ready to go.”
Last season, Nkemdiche had 82 tackles, 13 of which went for a loss, tops on the team in both categories.
The Rebels and Tide will kickoff at 6:30 pm EST Saturday night.
