Patrick Kane and the NHL Takes Center Stage on New SI Cover

According to NHL.com, Chicago Blackhawks right wing Patrick Kane and the NHL will be taking center stage when the new cover of Sports Illustrated hits stands.

The 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy winner is not the only NHLer that will be getting the spotlight. Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will be on a regional cover of the magazine.

According to the NHL.com report, the issue features a 20-page preview of the upcoming 2013-14 NHL season, including everything from scouting reports to conference ratings, and will feature all the top storylines coming into the start of the season.

This could be the first move in bringing Hockey back to the forefront of sports. The NHL took quite a hit last season when a lockout stole just about half of the season from hockey fans.

From the perspective of a hockey fan that suffered from wicked withdrawals when the season did not start as expected, hockey fans around the world are chomping at the bit for every single second of on-ice action that they can get their hands on this season.

Many people believe that the Chicago Blackhawks are going to make a repeat on their Stanley Cup win from last season. While the Hawks do have one of the strongest lines in the game of hockey, a lot of things have been shaken up this season. With the NHL’s new alignment, there are new divisions, and new challenges to be met. So at this very early point in the game, the Stanley Cup is still anyone’s to be had.
