Hey, so how are your tear ducts (er…tear Ducks?) feeling today? Underused? Well, if you’re in need of some eye-misting material for your afternoon, go check out the excellent profile piece Jason Quick wrote about Oregon Ducks wide receiver Josh Huff.
Huff, a senior, has been a major offensive weapon for the Ducks ever since his freshman year, but injuries and the presence of other star players have prevented him from putting up the statistics that his talent clearly indicates he’s capable of achieving. As fast and electrifying as Huff is in the open field, his blocking abilities may be his strongest asset, and it’s hard to imagine the Oregon rushing attack being the well-oiled machine it’s been these past few seasons without the presence of selfless players like Huff.
(Another — perhaps — interesting thing to note is the comments beneath the article. For those unaware, Quick burned some bridges when he left his job covering the Portland Trail Blazers to start covering the Ducks. He didn’t exactly ingratiate himself with Oregon fans –not an easy group to please, admittedly — when one of his first big pieces sparked a small and needless controversy about tight end Colt Lyerla. However, the response to the Huff piece has been overwhelmingly and rightfully positive, a good sign going forward for Quick and Duck fans.)
Seriously, go read the article about Huff. As spectacular of a player as he is on the field, learning what he’s had to overcome to achieve the things he has casts his play in a whole new light.
