The phenomenal play of backup quarterback Kenny Guiton in the wake of Braxton Miller’s knee injury has Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer in a pickle (the good kind). Not yet able to choose which of the two quarterbacks will start against the Wisconsin Badgers, Meyer has them listed both at the top of his depth chart with an “or” between their names.
Sounds like a good quandary to be in.
Here’s what Meyer had to say when he was asked about the quarterback situation on Tuesday:
Those decisions will be made later in the week. I think if [Miller] has a great week of practice, he will [start]. I don’t want to name him a starter yet, because I don’t know.
I want to make sure I’m doing right by Kenny Guiton, so it’s more complicated than that (ESPN).
Meyer went on to say that while it is a “blessing” to have two talented quarterbacks at the same time, the coaching staff needs to ensure they “manage [the situation] in the right way.”
I’m sure Ohio State fans will be thrilled no matter who starts. Miller turned in a remarkable 2012 season, finishing fifth in the Heisman voting and winning Big Ten Player of the Year honors. On the other hand, Guiton has thrown for twelve touchdowns over the past three games and looks every bit as comfortable leading the Ohio State offense as Miller.
