Jim Thorpe Award names Iowa cornerback B.J. Lowery Defensive Back of the Week

The Jim Thorpe Award named Iowa cornerback B.J. Lowery Defensive Back of the Week for his Week 4 performance in the Hawkeyes’ 59-3 win against visiting Western Michigan.

Lowery returned two interceptions for touchdowns against lowly WMU last Saturday. According to the Award’s press release, he is the first Hawkeye ever with two interception return touchdowns in a single game and becomes just the second Big Ten player to accomplish the feat since 1998. Lowery also recorded four tackles.

The Award named Maryland senior safety A.J. Hendy, Oregon State junior cornerback Steven Nelson and New Mexico State senior safety Davis Cazares honorable mentions for Week 4.
