If you’re tired of LeBron James free agency news, I hate to tell you, it’s going to be a long season.
James, who has an early termination clause in his contract can opt out and become a free agent at season end. That has lead to speculation that James may test the waters, though, if he does, James admits it’s extremely unlikely he’d play in any ‘cold weather’ city.
Sorry half of the NBA.
No matter his involvement in a project, the talk always circles back to James’ plans when he becomes a free agent in mid-2014. There’s speculation he may jump ship for the Los Angeles Lakers, though he seems pretty happy living the Miami dream.
“I miss the slower pace back home but have grown used to my new city’s little perks like fresh fish and sweet fruit,” he said, already thinking of a retirement homestead. “It will definitely be someplace warm. I don’t want to go back to cold winters.”
After the success he’s had in Miami, it’s difficult to imagine him jumping ship at this point. There aren’t many teams out there that can afford him – even less he’d be willing to play for. Add in his demands and you’re looking at a very select amount of teams that would even have the chance to sign James.
