This weekend should be an interest one not for just Paul Konerko but for the Chicago White Sox organization and it’s fans.

Konerko is waiting to make a decision on whether he’ll retire or not depending on what Chicago has up their sleeve. Right now the White Sox could be focusing on the future and willing to spend money on an impact free agent who can make some noise right away next season.

That money could very well be spent on the first base position with Konerko’s age obviously showing this season. The decision may not be easy, but one needs to be made by the time the weekend is over. Chicago may try to milk this until the Winter Meetings, which could force Konerko’s hand to either try to return to the White Sox or retire from baseball.

Every team has it’s eye on the future, no matter how great of a player you have on your roster. Age is something we all can’t avoid and as a professional athlete, the human body takes a lot of punishment. 162 games in a season is no joke, with Konerko set to be 38 next March, he’s recently suffered a bruised knee cap.

The Chicago White Sox will close out their 2013 season against the Kansas City Royals. Konerko could get a standing ovation from the Chicago faithful during his last possible appearance.
