Behind a strong performance from quarterback Logan Thomas, the Virginia Tech Hokies trumped the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to the tune of 17-10 on Thursday night. Freshman Kendall Fuller intercepted Georgia Tech quarterback Vlad Lee’s pass on 4th and 13 with about a minute remaining the in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The Hokies are now 4-1 on the season, their lone loss coming in the opener against Alabama. Georgia Tech is now 3-1.
Thomas, a senior, threw for 221 yards and completed 19 of his 25 passes. He was also Virginia Tech’s leading rusher, gaining 58 yards on the ground and scoring a rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
As well as Thomas played, the standout player for the Hokies was senior defensive tackle Derrick Hopkins, who racked up 7 tackles (5 solo) and helped the Virginia Tech defense shut down Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack. The Yellow Jackets went into the contest having rushed for at least 300 yards in their first three games of the season, and the Hokies held them to a mere 129.
