Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback AJ McCarron (10) celebrates throwing a touchdown against the Texas A

A.J. McCarron honoring car accident victim Olivia Mills

Alabama Crimson Tide star quarterback A.J. McCarron is one classy guy, as he is wearing a purple bowtie and ribbon on his chest to honor 17-year-old car crash victim Olivia Mills, who passed away this morning. Mills was recently involved in a car crash that put her into a coma, and it’s an extremely sad story. She was unable to make it, and another sad twist is the fact that the car accident victim occurred on her way home from church. A flood of students and others in the community came to her support, and they made a vast “Pray for Olivia Mills” Facebook page for her. Her high school Sipsey Valley in Norport, Alabama also honored her. She was incredibly popular in her school and community, as she was elected to the homecoming court, which was postponed due to her accident.

Here is the tweet that A.J. McCarron sent of his attire, which includes the purple bowtie and ribbon.

Why the purple? The football team at Sipsey Valley wore purple socks in order to honor Mills as well, and that’s because purple was Mills’s favorite color. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mills’s family, friends, and community, and this was a great gesture from A.J. McCarron.

Now, it’s time to see if he can help Alabama avoid an upset against a young and talented Ole Miss team. McCarron tweeted that he will play today’s game in honor of Mills and her family, and I am no longer a neutral fan because of it; I’m hoping Bama wins for that reason.
