For the Houston Astros, this season cannot end soon enough. The Astros have embarked on a 14 game losing streak as we cruise into the last day of the season. It isn’t just the losses, it is the way they have been losing. from the infamous butt slide to tonight’s catcher spike error, this season has been a comedy of errors for Houston.
Tonight’s entrée was courtesy of catcher Matt Pagnozzi. Pagnozzi tried to stop his throwing motion during an attempted pick-off of Yankee Robinson Cano at second base when the ball apparently slipped out of his hand and was spiked into the ground. The ball bounded away and Eduardo Nunez, who was standing on third, came racing home to score.
If that doesn’t sound wild enough, just view the video.
I feel slightly bad for the Astros. More than half of their lineup should probably still be in the minor leagues honing their craft as to not make mistakes like this in front of quite so many people. However these are the cards that they have selected and now it is up to them to make the best of it.
