Northern Illinois leads Purdue 10-7 after one quarter of play

WEST LAFAYETTE — Northern Illinois and quarterback Jordan Lynch are on the verge of beating its second Big Ten Conference foe this season.

NIU leads Purdue 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Lynch was 10 of 11 for 113 yards and a touchdown in the quarter.

After an illegal formation penalty stalled NIU’s opening drive, the Huskies settled for a Matthew Sims 44-yard field goal. Lynch was 3 of 4 for 29 yards on the drive.

Purdue tailback Akeem Hunt caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Rob Henry on the ensuing drive to put the Boilermakers up 7-3.

Lynch used his arm to dice up the Purdue defense on NIU’s second drive to make the score 10-7. Wide receiver Da’Ron Brown reeled in a 15-yard touchdown pass from Lynch. Lynch found Brown on the boundary of the end zone, and Brown tip-toed his feet inbounds. The Heisman hopeful was 4 of 4 for 75 yards on the drive.

NIU has the ball on the Purdue 22-yard line to start the second quarter.
