Nate Washington destroys referee on way to TD (GIF)

There are times in the NFL when referees get in the way and ruin what could be a big play, but during the Tennessee Titans impressive performance against the New York Jets there was no stopping them.

After starting quarterback Jake Locker went down with what appears to be a serious hip injury, back up Ryan Fitzpatrick stepped up in a big way.

Fitzpatrick kept his foot on the pedal and threw a deep pass to wide receiver Nate Washington who soared over the referee and Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie. When Washington was coming back down to Earth, he had a huge collision with the referee who immediately went to the ground.

Luckily for the Titans and Washington, he was able to keep his feet and scamper in to the endzone for the 77-yard score.

Perhaps he needs to work on his awareness a bit, but props to Washington for keeping his balance and staying on his feet for the score.
