Oregon Ducks land 4-star running back Tony James

After making an official visit to Eugene this weekend, 4-star running back prospect Tony James announced today that he’ll be committing to the Oregon Ducks. (I guess the rain didn’t deter him.) James is from Gainesville, Florida, and chose the Ducks over multiple SEC schools, including the University of Florida.

At 5’10″ and 173 pounds, James has the kind of the physical build Duck fans are used to seeing in their running backs. He is also blazing fast — shocking, I know — having been recorded at 4.37 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 10.52 in the 100 meters.

James isn’t the only big-name running back to commit to the Ducks this year. Royce Freeman, a powerful running back who is 6 feet tall and weights 227 pounds, committed to Oregon back in July. The two of them splitting carries in the backfield could give the Ducks a deadly “thunder and lightning” combination in future years.

Landing a recruit like James is not only big for the Ducks in terms of adding talent, but it also demonstrates that Oregon can recruit in SEC country. As the Oregon Duck brand continues to expand, look for players from all across the nation to have their eyes set on Eugene.
