Cleveland Browns claim RB Fozzy Whittaker off waivers from San Diego Chargers
By Jason Marcum
The Cleveland Browns are looking to bolster their running back depth after performance to forget against the Cincinnati Bengals. Despite picking up the win, the Browns rushed for just 89 yards on 30 carries (3 yards-per-carry).
Today, they added a guy off waivers who could easily rise up the depth chart and get meaningful snaps in the coming weeks:
Whittaker appeared in three games with the Chargers this season before they waived him Saturday. He returned six kickoffs for 156 yards (26.0 average). His longest return was 42 yards, and he fumbled once.
Whittaker spent the final two weeks of this past season on the practice squad of the Arizona Cardinals. He entered the NFL last year as an undrafted rookie from the University of Texas.
With Bobby Rainey and Willis McGahee ahead of him on the depth chart, it’s not crazy to see Fozzy eventually getting a decent amount of carries.
