Dwight Freeney injury: Chargers LB suffers torn quadriceps

The San Diego Chargers continued to roll on Sunday afternoon with a big win over the Dallas Cowboys, but their defense took a hit when free agent acquisition Dwight Freeney went down with an injury in the first half. There was no official word on his status following the game, but reports on Monday morning don’t look good.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Chargers linebacker suffered a torn quadriceps which is expected to force him to miss some significant time.

Rapoport wrote:

You would obviously have to believe that this will be it for Freeney in 2013, but the injury could also mark another moment — the end of his career.

At Freeney’s ago, recovering from a serious injury is the last thing you want to deal with, especially one of this magnitude.

The team should provide a clearer update over the next 24 hours, but it sure isn’t looking good.
