According to a press release Monday, the Davey O’Brien Award named Georgia senior Aaron Murray Quarterback of the Week for his Week 5 performance in the Bulldogs’ 44-41 win against visiting LSU on Saturday.
Murray was 20 of 34 for 298 yards, four passing touchdowns and one rushing scoere and led the No. 6 Georgia football team to its second win against a team ranked in the top ten of the AP Top 25 poll this season. Georgia topped visiting South Carolina 41-30 on Sept. 7.
“Aaron Murray was phenomenal,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said after the game. “He kept answering every score with another great play or throw. He played so well.”
The Tampa, Fla. native has completed 79 of 116 attempts for 1,338 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions through four games this season.
Georgia (3-1, 2-0 SEC) visits Tennessee at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. CBS will televise the tilt.
The Award named East Carolina’s Shane Carden, Stanford’s Kevin Hogan, Arizona State’s Taylor Kelly, Oregon State’s Sean Mannion, LSU’s Zach Mettenberger, Ohio State’s Braxton Miller, and Florida State’s Jameis Winston as honorable mentions for Week 5.
