Iowa football: LB Morris wins Big Ten Defensive POW honors

The Iowa football program’s hot streak continued on Monday, as the Big Ten Conference named senior linebacker James Morris its Defensive Player of the Week for Week 5.

Iowa (4-1) is on a four-game win streak, and Morris has been an integral part of that mark.

Morris recorded eight tackles, one sack and an interception in Iowa’s 23-7 win against host Minnesota last Saturday.

The interception Morris nabbed was with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Because of his effort, Iowa ran the clock down and eliminated any chance Minnesota had to comeback from its three-score deficit.

This is the first the Big Ten awarded Morris this honor.

Iowa hosts Michigan State at noon Saturday at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
