Newly anointed Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers knows what’s going to make him successful – point guard Chris Paul.
As one of the elites of the league, Paul along with the rest of the Clippers talented roster shouldn’t have too much trouble giving teams the business this season, which is where Rivens plans to rest his star point guard.
When asked if Rivers planned to give Paul some extra breathers to keep him fresh this year, Rivers suggested he wouldn’t limit Paul’s minutes, but rather rest him during blowouts.
Per Yahoo’s Marc J. Spears:
Clippers coach Doc Rivers says he won’t limit
@CP3 minutes and hopes to get him rest by blowing teams out.
Well, at least he’s subtle.
In fairness, barring an injury, Doc’s probably right considering the Clippers should find themselves on the good side of a blowout relatively often. Still, that’s not exactly endearing to opposing teams in the league. The Clippers are going to have a target on their back, simply off talent alone. Adding fuel to that fire probably isn’t the best way to go about things.
