Geno Smith apologizes to Jets defense
By Mike Dyce
The New York Jets lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The highlight of the game unfortunately might be Geno Smith’s version of the butt fumble. Geno Smith also threw two interceptions in the loss.
That guilt caused rookie quarterback Geno Smith to apologize to the Jets’ defense.
“I felt I owed the defense an apology,” Smith said, via ESPN. “They worked their butts off to be one of the best in the league and they pride themselves on not giving up points but whenever you turn the ball over and they lead to scores — And they bailed us out time and time again so far – but whenever you turn it over that many times it’s hard or those guys to go out there and do their jobs when it’s a short field. Just wanted to talk to those guys and let them know I was aware of my mistakes and I wanted to clean them up and I will clean them up.”
It takes guts for a rookie quarterback to come into a locker room full of veteran players and own up to his mistakes. He could have not, there certainly was nothing to lose by apologizing. Did the defense accept his apology? I haven’t heard anything yet. You would think that they would have accepted it and not tried to crush the confidence of their rookie quarterback.
