According to a press release Monday, the Mid-American Conference named Jordan Lynch, senior quarterback for the Northern Illinois football team, its West Division Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 5 performance in the Huskies’ 55-24 win at Purdue on Saturday.
Lynch finished the game 18 of 25 for 207 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, and he completed passes to eight different receivers. He also rushed nine times for 35 yards and a score.
The Chicago native has completed 81 of 125 passing attempts for 869 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions through four games this season.
Northern Illinois is the first MAC program to beat two Big Ten Conference teams in the regular season. The Huskies downed host Iowa 30-27 on Aug. 31.
The MAC also named Northern Illinois junior kick returner Tommylee Lewis its West Division Special Teams Player of the Week, while Ball State senior linebacker Kenneth Lee was named West Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Lewis returned a Purdue kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown Saturday.
Lee recorded eight tackles, one sack and an interception in the Cardinals’ 31-24 win against visiting Toledo on Saturday.
The Northern Illinois football team (4-0, 0-0 MAC West) visits Kent State to kickoff conference play at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Dix Stadium in Kent, while Ball State (4-1, 2-0) visits Virginia at noon at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. ESPN3 will broadcast the Ball State, Virginia non-conference tilt.
