According to a press release Monday, the Mountain West Conference named Devante Davis, junior wide receiver for the UNLV football team, its Offensive Player of the Week for his Week 5 performance in the Runnin’ Rebels 56-42 win at New Mexico on Saturday.
Davis reeled in a career-high 10 receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns and, most importantly, helped UNLV snap its 23-game road losing streak.
The Texas native has caught 28 receptions for 473 yards and eight scores through five games this season.
The Mountain West also named UNLV sophomore punter Logan Yunker Special Teams Player of the Week, while Colorado State senior linebacker Shaquil Barrett was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Yunker punted three times for an average of 51.7 yards.
Barrett recorded 13 tackles, four tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry in the Rams’ 59-42 win against visiting UTEP.
The UNLV football team (3-2, 1-0 Mountain West) has an open date in Week 6 and hosts Hawaii at 8 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.
Colorado State (2-3, 0-0) also has an open date in Week 6. However, it hosts San Jose State on Oct. 12.
