Cubs asked Padres about AJ Hinch

On the heels of the announcement that the Cubs’ have interest in Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi, ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick is reporting they have recently inquired about the Padres vice president of professional scouting AJ Hinch.



Hinch has prior managing experience, serving as the Arizona Diamondbacks manager post-Bob Melvin. He worked in the D-backs front office as director of player development, and was hired on as Manager in May 2009. He only lasted 79 games (31-48) until he was ousted from the position, paving the way for Kirk Gibson to be moved from bench coach to manager.

Hinch was a manager-league player for eight years for a variety of teams,
