According to a press release Wednesday, the John Mackey Award named Kivon Cartwright, a junior on the Colorado State football team, its Tight End of the Week for his performance in the Rams’ 59-42 win against visiting UTEP last Saturday.
Cartwright caught two receptions for 56 yards and two scores.
The Colorado native has 11 receptions for 139 yards and three touchdowns in five games this season.
Colorado State (2-3, 0-0 Mountain West) hosts San Jose State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at Hughes Stadium in Fort Collins. The game will be broadcasted on CBS Sports Network.
The John Mackey Award is presented to the nation’s most outstanding tight end. John Mackey was the second tight end inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU will announce the award winner on Dec. 12.
Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert won the award in 2012.
