With the playoffs slowly starting to open it’s new born eyes, the Pittsburgh Pirates punched their ticket to take on the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series.

Last night former Chicago Cub Marlon Byrd took Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Johnny Cueto deep to left field in his first post-season at bat for the Pirates. After getting through one division opponent in one game, Byrd will look to help get the Pirates by the division champions.

Since joining the Pirates after being traded by the Mets, Byrd has provided some good offense for the Bucs. In his first game with the Pirates, Byrd blasted a three run home run in a 7-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. He’s hit three home runs with 17 RBI’s, not including last night’s solo blast, on a batting line of .318/.357/.486 through 30 regular season games.

He finished last night’s game only 1-4 but kick-started this dangerous batting lineup.

This series between the Pirates and Cardinals is guarantee’d to be an exciting one. With two great pitching staffs and a lineup that can light up a scoreboard, this could very well go down to the final game of the series to see who moves onto the next round.
