For fourteen glorious years, fans of the Portland Trail Blazers were rewarded* with Taco Bell coupons for free chalupas whenever the team broke 100 points at the Rose Garden. Sadly, it was announced last month that the promotional giveaway would be discontinued.
So how did the organization commemorate the loss? With this weird video of the Portland mascot, Blaze The Trail Cat (yes, that’s his name), burying chalupa coupons in a miniature grave.
Awesome. Now I get to have nightmares tonight.
(Oh, and for the record, people in animal costumes don’t just walk around Portland digging graves on a regular basis. That’s just on Wednesdays.)
A replacement program has not yet been determined for the upcoming season. We will certainly let you know when a decision has been made.
*(Okay, so “rewarded” is sort of a strong word to be used in conjunction with Taco Bell. Personally, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the chalupa giveaways were part of a collusion between the fast-food chain and the makers of Pepto-Bismol. I mean, why else would an organization poison its loyal fans?)
